A meeting of junior officers doing detail work on plans for different rescue scenarios for the USS Prospero. Farid Singh is misremembering the phrase ‘radical simplification’, a term used by engineers trying to persuade management that complex machinery should be replaced with a simpler mechanism. Singh is using it sarcastically.
‘Linear warp drive’ is a fanon term for the change in technology represented by the flat-sided warp nacelles introduced in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. My speculative Prospero is a primitive precursor of the Miranda-class seen in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
