The giant planet on the foreground is a Jupiter-sized gas-giant in formation, with hydrogen and helium gas, the beginnings of bands and zones appearing, and a disc of icy dust and gas falling in to the planet and giving up some of its kinetic energy as light and heat.
Since the USS Prospero was a science vessel, it makes sense to start looking for it near the most interesting part in the system.
